Bring your Troop, Pack, or Den for a fun and educational visit to Nature’s Art Village in Montville, CT!  Whether you’d like to book a Badge Program or just a fantastic day of hands-on fun, there are many great activities in which to participate! More scout programs are offered outdoors at The Dinosaur Place. +- Geologist Badge: Webelos

Geology rocks! In this fascinating program, your junior geologists learn about the rocks and minerals that surround us in nature every day!

  • The classroom portion of this 2-hour program includes interactive instruction and a hands-on matching activity
  • The Scouts also enjoy a mining adventure in our Jackpot Mine full of minerals and gems!
    • All minerals found in the mines will be identified and theirs to keep!
  • Satisfies all requirements for the Geologist Badge at the Webelos level:
    1. Collect five geologic specimens that have important uses.
    2. Rocks and minerals are used in metals, glass, jewelry, road-building products, and fertilizer. Give examples of minerals used in these products.
    3. List some of the geologic materials used in building your home.
    4. Explain one way in which mountains are formed.
    5. Describe what a fossil is. How is it used to tell how old a formation is?  Find examples of fossils in your area.

+- Geology Pin: Cub Scouts

  • Satisfies all requirements for the Geology Pin at the Cub Scout level:
    1. Explain what geology means.
    2. Collect samples of igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks.  Explain how each was formed.
    3. Collect samples of three minerals.  Explain what a mineral is.
    4. Give examples of sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks.
    5. Describe the effects of wind, water, and ice on the landscape.
    6. Draw a diagram showing different types of volcanoes or draw a diagram that labels the different parts of a volcano.
    7. Make a poster or display showing 10 every day products that contain or use minerals.
    8. Draw the inside of a cave showing the difference between stalactites and stalagmites.

  Jewelry making is a true art!  Your Girl Scout Juniors learn about the tools and history of jewelry then make their own!

  • This 90-minute program covers a wide range of fascinating topics and teaches your Scouts how to make their own jewelry!
  • Each Scout makes three pieces of jewelry in class!
  • Satisfies all requirements for the Jeweler Badge at the Girl Scout Junior level:
    1. Get to know the tools of the trade
    2. Make jewelry with metal
    3. Turn everyday objects into jewelry

+- What is the minimum group size?

Minimum Scout group size is 8 Scouts. We encourage small groups to join together. We reserve the right to co-book small groups. If you are under the 8 scout minimum we are able to accommodate your group, but we must charge the flat fee for 8.

+- Are the activities handicap accessible?

Both indoor and outdoor activities are wheelchair accessible. Handicapped children may have an adult help them in the Jackpot Mine, Thunder Creek, and/or the Bone Zone. Please let us know in advance of any special requirements you may have. We recommend wide-wheeled wheelchairs for use outdoors in The Dinosaur Place.

+- Are patches included?

Patches are not included in the program fee. We do have patches for sale with Monty the T-Rex or the Nature’s Art Village logo on them.

+- Do we have an instructor the whole time?

Yes, you have a trained instructor for the entire indoor portion of your program! The Dinosaur Place is self-guided.

+- Is there a sibling or friend policy?

Siblings and friends may be added to the group for the same rate as the Scouts participating. If siblings or friends are not participating in the hands-on activities, they may watch for no charge. There is no limitation to the number of parents or chaperones that may watch the program. Siblings and friends may partake in the Jackpot Mine activity or admission to The Dinosaur Place at a reduced rate.

+- Do adults attending have to pay?

Adult chaperones may watch the program free of charge, but must pay associated fees if they participate in any activity or enter The Dinosaur Place. One adult chaperone is required for every 12 kids.

+- Can we order food?

Absolutely!  We offer group rates on food orders when they are added on to the Badge or Pin Program. No outside food is permitted in the main building. If your group takes advantage of the outdoor adventure dinosaur park (The Dinosaur Place), you are welcome to use our picnic areas and bring a bag lunch into the park.

+- Do we have to do a Badge Program?

No, not at all!  You can book a group for additional activities with a minimum of 20 participants.

+- What are the policies for reservations and deposits?

A non-refundable deposit is $50 (minimum) is required to hold the requested date. There are no deposit refunds for cancellations, but your deposit can be credited to your account in the event of a weather-related postponement. We appreciate three week notice when reserving a date.
