Ruby Mineral Monday

Ruby

Ruby 2Today’s Mineral Monday in The Shops at Nature’s Art Village is RubyRuby is the red colored variety of corundum. It is the second hardest natural material in the world, diamond is the hardest, and is almost always found in rocks of volcanic origin. The red color is due to traces of chromium oxide. Ruby is almost always highly fluorescent and is highly valued as a precious gemstone in jewelry. In Hindu lore, a person who offers a ruby to the god Krishna will be reincarnated as an emperor. In fact, in the Indian language of Sanskrit the word for ruby is “ratnaraj” which translates to “ruler” or “king of gemstones”. Metaphysically, Ruby is said to improve success in disputes, discourage violence and provide protection. It has been used to treat fever, heart disorder and to promote creativity.

Anyolite (Ruby Zoisite)

In addition to our selection of ruby at The Shops at Nature’s Art Village, we also have a unique collection of Anyolite (also known as Ruby Zoisite). Zoisite is usually found in metamorphic rocks and hydrothermal veins under high temperature and pressure, but it is not a common mineral. Zoisite is often used as an ornamental stone for buildings and carvings because of its attractive green color. It is named for Baron S. Zois Van Edelstein, an Austrian collector who discovered it in 1805. Metaphysically, Zoisite increases individual awareness and amplifies the body’s energy field. It has been used to improve disorders of the heart and by healers in Asia for diagnostic healing.
